Event Inspiration

Thank you for your interest in organizing a fundraiser benefiting the Osteosarcoma Institute! Below you’ll find some inspiration and resources to help make your event a success.

Charity Run or Walk

5K walks or runs are popular community events that are great for kids and adults alike. You can raise funds by requiring a fee to register, and seeking out corporate sponsorships to help cover race expenses. The Wampler family and Lizzy’s Walk of Faith Foundation have hosted an annual 5K since 2018. Read their story.

Bike Ride

Some advocates challenge themselves to an ambitious bike ride and ask supporters to contribute a certain amount of money for each mile. See an example from advocate Justin Peyret, a family friend of osteosarcoma survivor Lydia Alwan.

Go-Kart Race

In honor of their son, Miles, who loved karting, the Hartz family hosted a go-kart race and barbecue reception at a karting track outside of Houston. As a special perk for supporters, they even included a Legends Race — an opportunity to race alongside professional race drivers. Read the Hartz family’s story and see photos from their 2024 event.

Golf Tournament

Do you and your friends love golfing? If so, a golf tournament can be an effective and enjoyable way to raise money for osteosarcoma research. Give Kids a Shot, Team Lydia’s annual golf tournament, is just one example.

Lemonade Stand

Selling homemade lemonade or baked goods is a classic, kid-friendly fundraiser. If you can find people in your community to donate ingredients, all the better!

Party or Reception

If you have a birthday or anniversary approaching, you can ask guests to donate to the Osteosarcoma Institute in lieu of gifts. You can also set up a Facebook fundraiser benefiting the OSI. College students can charge a cover fee for a party and include additional opportunities to give. Read about how the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity at University of Wisconsin-Madison raised $34,000 for osteosarcoma research.

Coin Drive

A coin drive at a school or place of work is a simple fundraiser option. In honor of Childhood Cancer Month in September 2023, Sarah Bright organized a “Coins for Cancer” fundraiser at the school where she works. Students filled jars with donations from home and change from their piggybanks, raising $2,000 in total.
