Golf to Benefit Osteosarcoma Research

Lydia was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 7 and then again at age 9. While she is now cancer-free and thriving, Lydia and her family want to make an impact for other children and adolescents with this devastating bone cancer. The Alwan family and their support network — Team Lydia — is partnering with the Osteosarcoma Institute to host a 2nd annual golf tournament to advance osteosarcoma research. Last year’s inaugural Team Lydia Golf Tournament raised $63,000 for osteosarcoma research! Every dollar supported cutting-edge osteosarcoma research that is working hard to develop long-awaited new treatments for osteosarcoma patients. We deeply appreciate your support as we work to advance osteosarcoma research and improve outcomes for children like Lydia.

Sponsorships & Tickets

The event will host up to 100 golfers (25 foursomes). September 2, 2024, is the print recognition deadline for sponsors and September 13, 2024, is the deadline to register as a foursome team.

Thanks to an existing grant that covers administrative expenses, 100% of every donation to the OSI directly supports research. Your contributions to the Team Lydia Osteosarcoma Science Fund at the OSI directly support a new osteosarcoma immunotherapy research project conducted by Poul Sorensen, MD, PhD.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, the Team Lydia Science Fund has raised $80,000 to date for expert osteosarcoma research with the OSI! Your funding allows expert researchers to continue their work to accomplish meaningful change for osteosarcoma patients and their families.

“Lydia is now two and a half years cancer free. We are so grateful for the time we have been gifted and continue to share her story to not only spread awareness and to give other families hope who are facing the same battle, but to ultimately create change.”

Bike for Team Lydia

On June 27, 2024, you have another opportunity to support Team Lydia. Family friend Justin Peyret will host Miles For A Miracle, a bike expedition to raise funds for research with the Team Lydia Osteosarcoma Fund at the OSI. Justin will ride 200 miles around Lake Tahoe in one day. You’re invited to join the fun by following his training progress and tracking his ride on June 27, 2024! You can make a flat donation or donate per mile Justin rides by following the link below.

100% of donations to the OSI are poured directly into frontline research thanks to a generous grant that covers all admin expenses. Make your impact go further with the OSI because together, we will go Miles for a Miracle.

Justin Peyret rode for Lydia first in 2021 during her osteosarcoma treatment to raise funds for her medical bills. He rode again in 2023 (pictured above) to support osteosarcoma research with the OSI, and is riding a third time in June 2024!

About the Osteosarcoma Institute

Our Strategy

Globally estimated, there are over 26,000 new cases of osteosarcoma diagnosed each year, with 1,000 being diagnosed in the US, but treatment options haven’t advanced in 40 years. To find a cure for osteosarcoma, we have to collaborate, innovate, and translate around the most promising science.

Our Mission

The Osteosarcoma Institute’s mission is to dramatically increase treatment options and survival rates in osteosarcoma patients through identifying and funding the most promising and breakthrough osteosarcoma clinical trials and science.
